Sweet Rice Dumplings in Fermented Rice
Tiny glutinous rice dumplings simmered in fermented rice wine with goji berries and a little sugar.
Laozao is fermented rice with a mild sweetness and a low alcohol level, eaten as a winter breakfast drink with tangyuan in it. The tiny dumplings are meant to stay chewy rather than become sticky paste, so they go in at a rolling boil and only need a few minutes. Adding goji berries at the end is a late habit, and it makes the bowl look festive for very little effort.
