Mac and Cheese (American Baked Macaroni)
Elbow macaroni in a sharp cheddar sauce, baked with a breadcrumb crust.
Baked macaroni and cheese is closer to a casserole than to a pasta dish, and it is what the macaroni is for rather than an afterthought. The sauce is sharp enough to taste and can take being reheated, which matters because it is a school lunch dish as much as a dinner one. Eat it in a bowl so the crust survives the spoon.
