Grilled Cheese Sandwich

The bread is buttered on the outside and pressed in a skillet, which is the part everyone in the country thinks is obvious and most people elsewhere have never seen done. The cheese is simply cheddar and it is not improved by adding anything to it. Cut it diagonally, because that is what it is for, and eat it immediately.

Ingredients

  • sandwich bread4 pieces
  • cheddar cheese100 g
  • softened unsalted butter20 g

Directions

  1. 1

Divide the cheddar between 2 sandwiches. Spread all the butter thinly over the outside faces of the bread.

The cheese stays inside the bread edges.
  2. 2

Set a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sandwiches and cook for 5 minutes; lower the heat if the bread darkens quickly.

    The underside is evenly golden.
  3. 3

Turn, cover loosely, and cook for 5 minutes until the cheese melts. Uncover for the final minute to keep the crust crisp; cut and serve.

The center is hot and the cheese is melted.
