Kwek Kwek (Filipino Quail Egg and Street Fritter)
Quail eggs and vegetables coated in coloured batter and fried.
Kwek kwek is the street-stall batter that covers quail eggs, vegetables and sometimes longganisa in a coloured coating dyed for looks and for the pleasure of the cut. Vinegar and chilli go into the batter as well as the dipping sauce, and the eggs are cooked in the same hot fat as the larger items. A marble or toothpick usually finds the eggs first.
