Apfelstrudel (German Apple Strudel)
Flaky pastry rolled around cinnamon apples, raisins and breadcrumbs.
Apfelstrudel is an Austrian and Central European pastry that arrived in Germany with the whole pastry tradition rather than from one German region. Pulling the dough until it is thin enough to see through is the whole difficulty, and it is why a good shop-bought strudel often beats a homemade one. Breadcrumbs under the apples stop the juice from making the pastry soggy.
