Saskatoon Berry Pie (Canadian Prairie Fruit Pie)

Prairie families picked saskatoon berries into pails in late summer and either froze them or sealed them in jars for winter pies. The berries are small and seedy, so the filling looks modest but tastes strongly of almond and acid. Letting the pie cool before slicing keeps the juice from running out onto the plate.
