Maryland Crab Soup (Tomato-Based Vegetable Crab Soup)

The line between a crab soup and a crab stew has been contested on the Chesapeake for a long time, and the Old Bay in this one is not optional decoration. The tomatoes give a broth that is thinner than a stew, and crab meat goes in at the end so it stays in pieces rather than dissolving. Blue crabs are picked by hand, and the shells are used for stock.
