Ayva (Turkish Baked Apple with Walnut and Currant)
Baked apples stuffed with walnuts, currants and cinnamon.
Baked apples with a nut and dried fruit filling are a winter Ottoman dessert, and the apples are chosen for keeping rather than for eating out of hand. Core them without piercing the base so the filling stays in, and bake until the fruit has collapsed into a dark, almost caramel consistency. Serve warm, though it is also good the next day, cold.
