Bacon Buttie (New Zealand Bacon Sandwich)
Soft bread filled with crispy bacon, tomato sauce and optional cheese.
The bacon buttie is the New Zealand name for a bacon sandwich, and the word comes from the butty of the British chip shop. Buy the bacon thick-cut and cook it in its own fat until it curls and crisps, then drain it properly. Tomato sauce goes on the bread rather than the bacon, and cheese is a local addition rather than a default.
