Fabada Asturiana (Spanish White Bean Stew)

Fabada is what wet, cold Asturias cooks to warm up on a Sunday: a pot of white beans, chorizo and black pudding that originally used up whatever was hanging in the larder. The chorizo renders through the long simmer and is what gives the broth its body. The beans must stay whole, which means patience rather than heat does almost all of the cooking.
